Coal mine campaigns

In the midst of the climate crisis, the UK still mines and imports coal. In the UK, coal is primarily used for steel and cement production. There is currently one large operating coal mine in the UK - Aberpergwm. The only other active coal mine is the relatively small Ayle Colliery, in Northumberland. There is a live application to expand the Glash Lash opencast coal mine. 11 groups commit to taking direct action to stop the West Cumbria coal mine if government approves it

Coal Action Network has joined eight other action groups in pledging to take direct action against the proposed Cumbrian coking coal mine, should the government reject all of the evidence at the public inquiry and approve the mine.
