Glan Lash opencast coal mine
Bryn Bach Coal Ltd applied in 2019 to expand the Glan Lash opencast coal mine and extend coaling for another 6.1 years. Carmarthenshire Council Planning Officer’s Report recommended rejection of the application, and Planning Councillors unanimously refused the application permission on 14th September 2023. Bryn Bach Coal Ltd filed a fresh application for an amended extension in September 2024, which was also refused in June 2026. These successive attempts to expand the coal mine has delayed the site’s restoration, threatening the surrounding nature.
